Diminutive forms are very common in Alphistian. To form the diminutive, add -is to the end of a noun. If the noun ends in a vowel, drop it and add the -is ending. To further the degree of familiarity, add the ending -iste in the same way.

vander/vanderis/vanderiste - friend, dear friend, dearest friend

hus/husis/husiste - house, little house, really nice little house.

Plurals are formed in the normal way: vanderis/vanderisen, husis/husisen.

Telling time in Alphistian is very easy to learn. The twenty-four hour clock is normally used in conversation, so 1:00 in the afternoon is dek en tre uren in Alphistian. It is more normal to say dek en vet minuten over dek en tre uren (fifteen minutes past one p.m. instead of using "quarter after" or "half past" etc. Examples of different times of the day are:

Et es ses uren. It is six in the morning.

Et es dek minuten over nen uren. It is ten minutes past nine a.m.

Et es nul ur. It is midnight.

Et es dek en tav uren. It is noon.

Et es tavdek minuten pres dek en vor. It is twenty minutes before two p.m.
